Book Launch Day: Surviving God
After years of writing, editing, rewriting, copyediting….our new book, Surviving God co-written with Susan Shaw is finally born. What a wonderful day to celebrate the birth of our new book!
It is laborious work to start a new book-organize, write, reorganize, edit, rewrite and complete a book. But to have a wonderful friend along the way to co-write this important new book, was a joy to have. Susan Shaw and I co-wrote Intersectional Theology and after the success of our first book, we really wanted to co-write another book to implement some of the things we wrote about in Intersectional Theology.
Intersectional Theology is a theological method and a tool to do theology. To talk about sexual abuse in the church, we need intersectional lens to understand sexual violence, to dismantle it and survive it. Therefore, it becomes very important to see the world, church and God through this intersectional lens.
Sexual abuse is horrible, damaging, destructive, dehumanizing and unbearable. To survive sexual abuse is a long hard road and some never survive it. Our hope is that our book will be a tool and a guiding light for survivors and for faith communities who are struggling with sexual abuse. We hope that our book will help many understand some of the biblical misunderstandings of women and to see sexual abuse in biblical stories which traditional interpretations have overlooked.
We dedicated our book to “All survivors of sexual assault and abuse, as well as those who did not survive”. We hope that this book will be used in churches, seminaries, classrooms, study groups, book clubs and by individuals.
