International Women's Day
International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th to focus on the women's rights movement. This day tries to bring to light the issues of gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. These issues are all intersectional and therefore working on one means working on all the issues.
For this year, the theme of International Women’s Day is “Invest in women: Accelerate progress”. Investing in women is an investment into the future. It involves working on economic justice and ending poverty. Investing in women also means working on climate justice as climate change effects women disproportionately then men and therefore we need to work towards a greener earth. To help fight sexual violence, I hope many will read Surviving God co-written with Susan Shaw.
To celebrate International Women’s Day, I want to share a few of the recent Madang Podcast episodes with women guests. Listen to Dr. Kwok Pui Lan, Kaitlin Curtice and Cole Arthur Riley, and read their important books.
This past week, I was honored to give the Sihler Lecture at Luther College where I lectured on “Theology of Visibility” from my book, Invisible. I also preached in their chapel service under the theme of International Women’s Day. You can watch the service here:
I hope that you can all find ways to celebrate International Women’s Day.
