Meeting Madang Podcast Guest: Dean Kelly Brown Douglas
I attended AAR to present a paper for the Feminist Studies in Religion panel which I organized with Dr. Tracy Tiemeier on “Invisibility and Anti-Asian Racism”.
It was a hectic AAR as I was trying to meet as many friends and colleagues during my short stay at the AAR conference. I made plans to meet few friends whom I haven’t seen in years, but it was a pleasant surprise to unexpectedly meet my latest Madang podcast guest, Dean Kelly Brown Douglas.
Saturday morning, my colleague and I were going to grab brunch when we ran into Dean Kelly Brown Douglas having brunch with Orbis Books’ publisher Robert Ellsberg. Dean Douglas was a fantastic guest on Madang podcast where she shared her important book, Resurrection Hope. On Madang podcast, Dean Douglas discussed whiteness, anti-blackness in the church, just communities, #blacklivesmatter, resurrection, hope and more. I appreciated her honest sharing and depth of knowledge.
I was hoping to meet her in person one day as she is an incredible scholar and author. As soon as I ran into her, she was a delight just as she was on Madang podcast. Dean Douglas’ spirit of kindness was felt throughout the interview and it overflowed when I met her in person.
