On the Cover of Crosslight Magazine
It is a big thrill to be on the cover of Crosslight Magazine (October 2025)! Crosslight is a magazine produced by the Synod of Victoria and Tasmania in the Uniting Church of Australia.
In this issue, Andrew Humphries interviewed me about my new book, When God Became White, and you can read the entire interview in this issue.
I was honored to be invited by President Charissa Suli to be the Cato Lecturer at the 17th National Assembly in Sydney. My visit to Australia included many other lectures such as my book talk, When God Became White, at the Wesley Centre. The Centre is directed by Dr. Robyn Whitaker and the event was co-sponsored with the Victoria Council of Churches. I gave my talk centered on the need to move away from the white male God and use non-gendered and non-racialized language to speak about God. Dr. Daniel Sihombing gave a wonderful response to my lecture and you can read his response in this issue of Crosslight Magazine.
During my time in Australia, I spoke at numerous events and conferences and was honored to meet so many fabulous Uniting Church leaders, ministers, and professors, as well as many religious and Christian leaders in Australia. I am deeply grateful for my time in Australia and for the Uniting Church’s new President, Charissa Suli, who is the first woman of color to be elected president.
