I was thrilled to be invited back to the Wild Goose Festival to preach, record Madang Podcast, participate in a workshop and do a book signing. It was another fantastic festival of meeting friends, and making new friends.
This year I preached on the “The Samaritan Woman” and read from Exodus 17:1-7 and John 4:5-26. Below is my sermon from the Wild Goose Festival.
I was also glad to be part of the pre-festival workshop, “A Much Bigger and Broader Bible” with Hal Taussig, Chebon Kernell and Shirley Paulson. It was a lively workshop which delved into a world beyond the confines of the traditional Bible. We took a journey that expanded the biblical canon to include 150 fascinating ancient Jesus books discovered since the mid-1800s. We immersed ourselves in the wonders of the past and explored how they can enhance your understanding of the present.
I was also excited to record live an episode of Madang Podcast with guest Bill McKibben on his book, The Flag, the Cross, and the Station Wagon. It was a lively conversation on climate change, the wealth gap, spiritual formation, and so much more. This episode of Madang Podcast is sponsored by Homebrewed Christianity and GreenFaith. Please check out these sponsors for their events and special programs.
It was great to catch up with Dr. David Gushee who contributed to my co-edited book, Christianity in North America and wrote the Foreword to my forthcoming book, When God Became White.
I was happy to meet some of the Christian Century staff as I have written several pieces for their magazine and the Christian Century hosts Madang Podcast.
You can also listen to my sermon from last year’s Wild Goose Festival.
