Speaker at The Veritas Lecture Series
Our family immigrated to London, Ontario in January 1975. It was a very cold and snowy winter. London lies right in the middle of the snow belt, and as a kid, I remember walking to school with snow up to my waist.
I started kindergarten in the middle of the school year and I still recall how uncomfortable I felt in kindergarten class even though kindergarten is supposed to be “fun” learning. I remember being made fun of because I looked different and couldn’t speak English. As an immigrant child, I encountered racism. I have written about my experiences in some of my books, most recently Invisible.
I also have fond memories of going to church and making friends with other Korean immigrant children, with whom I have become lifelong friends. My formative years were spent in London Ontario and thus, it is a great honor to be invited by King’s University College to be a speaker at the Veritas Series for Faith and Culture.
For this lecture series, I will be speaking on Healing Our Broken Humanity co-written with Graham Joseph Hill. I am so happy that some of the faculty and staff are already reading our book.
HEALING OUR BROKEN HUMANITY
We live in conflicted times. Our newsfeeds are filled with inequality, division, and fear. We want to make a difference and see justice restored so that we can become peacemaking and reconciling people. This lecture will offer Christian practices that can bring healing and hope to a broken world, such as lament, relinquishing power and reinforcing agency. Embodying these practices enables us to be the new humanity in Christ, so the church and world can experience reconciliation, justice, unity, peace, and love.
Please share this event with your friends, family and church, and join me at this lecture which is open to the public. I will be signing books at the end of my talk. Hope to see many of you in London, Ontario at King’s University College on November 16 at 7 p.m.
